Khipro 4 UCs WASH Project
Khipro 4 UCs WASH Project
Poor sanitation has a direct impact on health, nutrition and poverty reduction. About 2.3 billion people do not have toilets. Nearly 8,42,000 people die as a result of inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene each year, representing 58% of total diarrheal deaths. Open defecation creates a vicious cycle of disease and poverty.
Pak Mission Society is committed to bringing a lasting change in the most marginalized communities of Khipro, Sindh through “4 Union Councils (UCs) WASH Project”. The project aims to improve the health of 19,250 individuals from 125 targeted communities through provision of water supply and sanitation facilities. Due to high illiteracy and social/cultural practices, people are not well aware of hygiene related risks and preventative actions.
The project is especially catering to the needs of women by distributing 2750 menstrual hygiene kits. Women engaged in livestock and agriculture are suffering from several skin allergies and hygiene related issues as there are no means to dispose of their domestic waste conveniently and effectively. Due to unhygienic environment vector borne diseases are on rise. Training and provision of fuel efficient stoves will make provide better functionality for females. One hundred and twenty-five females have been trained as hygiene promoters to sustain knowledge and make others aware of improved hygiene practices.
