Muhammad Nawaz Quraishi, a 30-year-old teacher in Shalkanabad, Kollai Palas Kohistan, was committed to his students and community but faced significant challenges. Despite having access to a Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) Fund, he lacked the skills to utilize it effectively. His knowledge of child protection, environmental awareness, hygiene practices, and modern teaching techniques was limited, and his school struggled with inadequate infrastructure and a lack of sports facilities.

Seeking a way to bring meaningful change, Nawaz found an opportunity when the Pak Mission Society (PMS) visited his village to conduct a capacity-building program for teachers and community leaders. Recognizing his dedication and potential, Nawaz was selected for the training.

The program equipped Nawaz with essential skills to improve his school. He learned to manage the PTC Fund effectively, enhancing the school’s infrastructure and ensuring a healthier, safer learning environment. Training on child protection and children’s rights helped him promote a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Hygiene education and kits provided through the program significantly improved health standards among students.

Nawaz also developed a Child-Centered School Improvement Plan (CCSIP), which became a roadmap for ongoing development. Modern teaching techniques, such as participatory and creative learning methods, transformed his classroom approach. A visit to Khpal Kor Foundation School further inspired him to implement innovative practices.

With the addition of sports kits provided by PMS, Nawaz introduced regular sports activities, fostering teamwork and physical fitness among students. Improved hygiene practices reduced absenteeism, while engaging lessons boosted attendance and enthusiasm for learning.

Now, Nawaz continues to implement his training, using the CCSIP to prioritize further improvements, including adding learning materials and creating a small library. Looking forward, Nawaz envisions a school where every child has access to quality education, clean surroundings, and opportunities to grow into confident individuals. He continues to work tirelessly, inspired by the positive changes already achieved.

“Thanks to PMS, my students are happier, healthier, and more eager to learn. I am proud to contribute to their growth and the progress of our community,” he shared.
