Mr. Bahar-ud-Din, a resident of Rango village in District Lower Kohistan (KP), is the sole earner for his family. For nearly two years, his two young sons suffered from frequent diarrhea, requiring medical visits every 10–15 days. A large portion of his limited income was spent on treatment. One child was even placed on anti-tuberculosis medication for six months, without improvement.
Intervention
Mr. Bahar-ud-Din sought support from the Mother and Child Healthcare (MCH) Center run by Pak Mission Society. After assessment, the medical team identified unsafe water use and poor hygiene practices as the main cause. The family received home-based guidance on handwashing, safe drinking water, kitchen hygiene, ORS preparation, and child nutrition, along with a short five-day treatment and follow-up visits.
Outcome
By the second follow-up visit, both children had recovered. After one month, they remained healthy with no recurrence of diarrhea.
Impact
Hospital visits stopped, medical expenses decreased, and the family regained financial stability. Mr. Bahar-ud-Din now spends his income on nutritious food and shares hygiene practices with others in his community.
