Chanda, a resilient 40-year-old woman from Dillawar Hussain Shah Village in the Umerkot district, had always been the pillar of her family. But the devastating flood in 2022 tested her strength like never before. The raging waters washed away their belongings, leaving them with nothing and no source of income. The aftermath was brutal. Struggling to cope with their loss, Chanda’s family faced a scarcity of clean water, posing a severe threat to her children’s health.

Financial difficulties loomed large, making it impossible to afford basic necessities like food and milk, and her children’s education came to a standstill as they couldn’t afford the school fees. In the midst of this crisis, a beacon of hope appeared in the form of the Pak Mission Society.

They provided vital assistance to the flood-affected families, and Chanda was one of the recipients of a much-needed cash grant of PKR 50,000. With this lifeline, Chanda saw a chance to rebuild their shattered lives. She understood the importance of planning for the future, and with unwavering determination, she decided to invest the grant in a sewing machine. This was more than just a purchase; it was a step towards reclaiming her dignity and securing a sustainable income for her family. With the sewing machine, Chanda started a small tailoring business, sewing clothes for her neighbors and local community members. Each stitch she made was a thread
of hope, weaving a better future for her family. As her business grow, the financial strain gradually began to ease.
She could afford food and healthcare, leading to a steady

Improvement in her children’s health. Equally important to her was their education. Despite the hardships, Chanda made sure her children returned to school, their smiles reflecting the joy of learning and the promise of a brighter future.

Chanda’s tailoring business grew, and with it, her confidence. She no longer felt like a victim of circumstances but a victor over them. Her journey inspired others in the community, showing that with resilience and support, recovery was possible. The Pak Mission Society’s intervention not only alleviated immediate hardships but also empowered Chanda to build a stable future for her family.

As she sits by her sewing machine, surrounded by vibrant fabrics and the sound of her children’s laughter, Chanda reflects on their journey. “This sewing machine is not just a tool for work; it’s a symbol of our strength and hope,” she says, her eyes brimming with tears of gratitude and pride. “We were given a chance to rebuild, and we took it. Now, we are not just surviving; we are thriving.”
