My name is Rimsha Dawood. I come from a conservative background where traditional norms often limit women’s career choices, confining them to teaching or staying at home. However, I have always dreamed of building a meaningful career and contributing to my community, particularly in the field of environmental sustainability.

Growing up, I was deeply connected to nature, which inspired me to pursue a degree in Environmental Sciences. Yet, after graduating, I found limited opportunities in my city. Environmental awareness was low, and professional openings in my field were almost non-existent. Despite these challenges, my parents encouraged me to pursue my goals, even if it meant leaving home.

While searching for a relevant opportunity, one of my friends told me about the Young Graduate Internship Programme by Pak Mission Society (PMS). What attracted me most was how the program focused on three important pillars personal, professional, and spiritual growth. I felt this was the opportunity I had been praying for, and by the grace of God, I was selected.

During my internship, I was deputed to the Climate Action Programme and later placed at the Haryali Hub (solid waste management facility), where I finally began applying my academic knowledge to real-world environmental projects.

During this internship, I gained valuable professional experience in report writing, event management, designing training manuals, planning sessions, and understanding capacity-building frameworks. I also explored Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), learning how to build partnerships and collaborate with companies toward shared goals. On a personal level, the experience boosted my confidence and emotional resilience moving from Quetta and working in a professional setting helped me become more independent and self-assured. Additionally, spiritually starting each day with prayer strengthened my faith, deepened my connection with the Bible, and reminded me to live according to God’s Word, grounding my values and purpose.

This internship has truly transformed me from a young woman facing societal barriers to a confident and committed individual making real contributions to the environment and my community. I am grateful to Pak Mission Society for creating such a platform for youth like me.

This is just the beginning. I now believe that with faith, dedication, and the right support, I can go further and help others along the way.
