Lakshmi, a hardworking 49-year-old daily wage laborer, resides in a village named Ayaz Rind located in the district Umerkot. Lakshmi’s daily struggle revolved around the unavailability of clean drinking water. The groundwater in their area became highly saline because, the floods that occurred last year, wrecked the hand pump initially installed by PMS, mixing floodwater with drinking water, making it unfit for consumption and domestic use.

This dire situation not only affected Laksmi’s health but also posed a threat to the well-being of the entire community. To obtain clean water, they have to travel long distances, which was time-consuming and physically exhausting.

In response to the pressing issue and recognizing the vital importance of accessible clean water for the villager’s well-being, PMS conducted rehabilitation efforts in the area. They re-installed a new hand pump and connected it to an open water source, ensuring easy access to water.  The villagers further use Nadi filters for clean drinking water.

With these efforts of PMS, clean drinking water has become readily available to the villagers. Now Lakshmi no longer has to endure the burden of consuming saline water or undertake long trips to distant locations. As a result, the prevalence of waterborne illnesses has significantly decreased, leading to improved health conditions for Lakshmi and her family.

Beyond Lakshmi’s personal story, the entire village has benefited from the rehabilitation work. Now, the villagers can focus their energy and efforts on pursuing various livelihoods without constantly worrying about the scarcity of clean water.
